About Shabnam

I have been an Art educator since 2007 across both Primary and Secondary schools.

I hold a Bachelor of Arts in Graphic Communication from University of the Arts London and a Secondary Art and Design PGCE from Middlesex University.

For the first thirteen years of my career I taught art in Secondary Schools and Sixth Forms across the London Boroughs of Hounslow and Brent and and The Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead.

For much of this time I was the Head of Art with strategic responsibility for overseeing Key Stages 3,4 and 5 and I thoroughly enjoyed working with a diverse range of young people.
Since 2020 I have been teaching and leading the Art provision in an Outstanding four form entry primary school in the Borough of Ealing. Helping young minds explore the possibilities of a creative mindset is truly one of the most rewarding experiences of my career. I am genuinely passionate about providing meaningful, enjoyable and empowering creative opportunities to young children whilst they are in the most inventive phase of their lives.

This has inspired me to reach beyond my role as a class teacher in order to support colleagues across primary schools to deliver the best Art curriculum possible for their children. The many obstacles faced by Art subject leads in the primary sector from: time constraints; limited budgets; timetabling complications; lack of relevant CPD and subject specific training- to name a few, are all challenges that I can support colleagues with overcoming.

Within my own school I have designed a comprehensive Curriculum Overview that draws upon the school’s History and Geography units, thus making meaningful cross curricular links and providing opportunities for children to interleave and consolidate their learning across subjects. I cover a diverse range of over thirty artists from across the world, both historical and contemporary, with an even spread of both female and male. This is something I feel it is vital to expose our children to and is so often very limited in the primary sector with only the European Masters securing a spot on the curriculum.

I offer bespoke tailored consultancy services to primary schools looking to shake up and ramp up their Arts provision- all informed by the needs of your school and your children. The focus of my service is underpinned by the Intent, Implementation and Impact that your school is striving to achieve in Art.

I look forward to creating with your school!
